Doron Yoga Retreat

Finding Clarity
December 4-10
Take your mind away from your busy life into the splendor of the tropical rainforest, with the views of the Caribbean ocean, yummy veggie food, a supportive group and practices to help you gain clarity in your mind about who you are and where you are going. Practice yoga and pranayama, learn a variety of meditation techniques, and get clear in your mind before the holidays!
We will stay in the wonderful ecological resort of Samasati, a place big enough to give you land to roam, and cozy enough to let you feel at home. It is on the hill overlooking the ocean, surrounded by tropical birds and the lush rainforest, and lots of possibilities for activities.
Morning will include a Doron Vinyasa yoga class while afternoons will have more relaxing practices, including yin, meditation and visualizations. We will have 2 planned days of ocean visits included in the price, and the other days can be either for relaxing or activities such as zip lining, horse back riding, water fall trek and more.

FAQ's
Which airport should I fly into and how far is Samasati? The airport to fly into is SJO and Samasati is 3 and ½ hours drive from there. Try to arrive Sunday Dec 4th, before 1:30pm. This way we can all travel together to Samasati in a minivan. If you arrive after 2pm, better to arrive the night before and stay at San Jose. Samsasati can help book a hotel where you can spend the night and book transportation for the next morning to travel to Samasati.
The Hotels Samasati generally suggest are:
Don Carlos: www.doncarloshotel.com
and Hotel 1492: www.hotel1492.com
Make sure your departure flight is after 3 pm (or the next day) if you want to share the ride to the airport.
Props: There are blocks, straps, bridges and blankets. We have some yoga mats but we suggest you bring your own. For hygienic reasons, it is difficult to keep yoga mats clean at all times.
What is the weather like? On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica there is no rainy season (as opposed to the Pacific side and the Central Valley where it rains from May to December). On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica the weather is unpredictable and it can rain at any moment. It never lasts too long. It generally rains at night time or late in the afternoon and the sun shines every day. Temperature is around 80 degrees and it lowers to 70 degrees at night. Because Samasati is on a hill, 600 feet above the sea level, the breeze from the ocean keeps the climate very pleasant.
What about wild life, mosquitoes and bugs? Samasati is nestled in a property of 270 acres of primary forest, so there are a lot of living creatures around. No animals come close to the rooms: you can see toucans, monkeys, parrots and sloth, but you will always see them from a distance. Samasati has 5 dogs that “control” the territory and equilibrium has been established through time with the rest of the wild life.
Because of the altitude and the ocean breeze, there are not too many mosquitoes. We suggest you wear a mosquito repellent after sunset, more as prevention than anything else. If you take an excursion or a walk in the forest, you do want to make sure you wear mosquito repellent. There is no need of mosquito netting over the beds and all the windows have mosquito nets.
At what times are the meals and what kind of food is served? Meals are served buffet style. Food is delicious and is vegetarian. Tofu, tempeh, beans, seitan are served at every meal so that each meal is very well balanced. Fish is served once a week. Fish is available every day upon request for an extra charge of $ 8.00. We use eggs, milk and cheese and our chef can also accommodate any other diet (vegan, gluten free etc…). For any particular diet needs please communicate at least one month ahead of time.
Do you serve alcohol? We serve beers and different kinds of wines at an additional charge.
What about electricity? Do rooms have hair dryers? Do you have laundry facilities? The electricity is the same as in the United States, so you do not need any converter. Rooms do not have hair dryers. They have soap and cream.
Samasati has laundry facilities, a full load of laundry costs $9.00 and you can bring the laundry to the reception. They will wash it for you and have it ready the next day.
Do you have phones and do cellular phones work at Samasati? We do not have phones at Samasati. You can find phones and Internet cafes at the nearby town, Puerto Viejo. Cellular phones have service in certain parts of the resort.
We have recently installed an Internet connection at Samasati that can be accessed through our Samasati computer. Currently we only have one computer available for your use, so the usage’s time has to be scheduled in order for everyone to have an opportunity to access the Internet during their stay.
The Samasati computer is available daily from 11 AM to 7:00 PM. There is NO wireless connection. Consider finding clarity from the internet for a week.
How do I sign up to excursions? You will be instructed to sign up to one of the excursions you want to participate in the day prior to the excursion. There will be two different ones offered, twice that week. The excursions fee will need to be paid directly to the tour operators. More details about excursions.
What if I just want to go to the beach? The closest beaches are 4 miles away from Samasati and they are gorgeous. There are white sand beaches, and black sand beaches; they have a lot of shade and the ocean is warm and swimmable through the whole year. The minivan will take you to Puerto Viejo, where you can choose between going to the black beach or to the white beach. In Puerto Viejo you can also rent bicycles or scooters to go and visit other beaches. Bring a beach towel or sarong.
What would I find in Puerto Viejo? In Puerto Viejo there are small gift shops, restaurants and Internet cafes. It is a very laid back touristy town.
Do I need Malaria shots? Malaria has been eradicated from the Caribbean region 10 years ago. We have never heard of a case in the area.
Is there any hospital close by Samasati in case of any emergency? There is a clinic at the “bottom of the hill”, just 5 minutes away from Samasati. They have an emergency room and there is always a doctor there. If there is something really serious they have ambulances to transport the patient to Limon or San Jose’.
Are there any extra expenses? Apart from the mentioned excursions, drinks (free wter at meals) etc above, your flight and travel inssurance, you will need to pay $27.00 as exit tax on your way back to the States.
Any recomendations for flights? Good flights to Costa Rica can be found at: yapta. I am arriving Sunday Dec 4th to SJO at 12:50pm, Leaving SJO at 4pm.
