My Story
My story...We need a long night. Get comfortable as the tea is being served. Take off your shoes, loosen the pants, recline on the pillows, sip a bit and smell the aroma as it fills the air. Sounds of soft music in the background, like chants with a hint of electro, maybe the Kaya Project or Prem Joshua (both wonderful).
Hmmm, my life is nothing of the norm but let’s start from the beginning…
Born and raised in Jerusalem, son to a dark handsome father from a Spanish origin, nine generations in Jerusalem, and son to a blond green eyed mom, first generation in Israel, after her father escaped ex-Yugoslavia during the second world war.
Born in 1971, when everything seems to have had a sepia tone to it. At the age of 4, my dad took us to San Antonio, Texas for 3 years for his job. Fell in love with horses and planted the seed to my connection to America.
I returned to Israel to feel that there is something different in me. Had a ton of friends yet inside still felt like an outsider. I would gaze at the stars trying to understand why we all go through this pattern of life in such a similar way, a way prescribed by other humans. After studying Electronics in High school, I joined the army (as all Israeli kids do). It was the first golf war. I did my job, no big hero, no big fighter, a great organizer and contributor in the little things.
The service was not my cup of tea, and all feelings of belonging escaped me. I took a bus to Cairo where I rode camels, explored the pyramids and got crammed into a mini taxi with 7 others, a great preparation for India. Landed in Bombay and explored the subcontinent for 7 months. Travels, Ashrams, meditations, Dali lama, Osho, temples ...Trekked the Himalayas in Nepal for 3 weeks, practiced Vipassana in Thailand, lived with a Buddhist priest in Japan where I was healing with crystals, meditating, soaking in Japanese bath houses, living in a minivan, and street selling in Tokyo. I ate my first real Chinese meal in Hong Kong and celebrated New Years (the Chinese one) in China.
I returned to Israel to study interior design. After one semester I switched to art school as a preparation for Architecture. I always wanted the big picture, so I have the options to then practice the small or large things, always keeping my doors open.
At art school they let me start straight with the second year majoring in photography. I worked as an assistant in the photo lab, taught students how to print black and white and color photographs, and had my grand show at the end of my second year (third year officially). My show involved a project I had done with my parents, now understanding for the first time what it means that their son is an artist (and not an engineer). I decided to move on and not complete the forth year as I already submitted my final project. I studied Italian for three months, lived in Tel Aviv three blocks from where Rabin (the prime minister) was shot, and when Netanyahu was elected Prime minister, I landed in Florence. (Firenze)
Three months of studying Italian Physics and math, living in a town that is art itself, breathing museums and sculptures on every house, I realized that I had to continue with my art. As I arrived to Milan to begin my first year of Architecture, I decided to search for photography work or school. I just could not let it out of my system. I was accepted to a school in a complex of 13 studios with a full scholarship. Studio13 in Milan is the Mecca for fashion photography in Italy if not Europe. Before I knew it I was assisting big name photographers, with my first paid job being on a Versace photo shoot with top model Eva Herzigova, and I thought she was just another cute blond…yet very excited to have real Parmesan and fresh strawberries with my espresso for breakfast.
While working as an assistant I started shooting models myself, using the great studios and the city of Milan as my backdrop. In the summer I was invited to Berlin to work with the local model agency of the city. After Barcelona this was my new experience of a true city.
When returning to Milan, my search for creating art still kept within me. I was creating like a mad man. Painting on cardboards using any found material, cutting figures out of big pieces of wooden boards I found left over from a home renovation and working on them with photographs, paint, silicon and other materials.
I needed more of an edge than what I found in Italy. It was London or NY next.
A quick stop in Israel where I created art pieces on car hoods, and before I knew it I was in NY. In less than a year of arriving with $700 in my pocket, I was working for Tahari with an office on the 48th floor in front of the Chrysler Building and a 6-figure salary. The corporate dream was not for me, and I chose to start a studio from scratch surrendering my savings to the crash of the stock market. For the next 8 years I ran my own photography studio in Manhattan’s Hells Kitchen. Art and fashion supported each other; portraits and headshots came by too.
Life was exciting: parties, love, models, art galleries, art shows, renovating my own studio…and during all this I still practiced yoga and learned more about health food and cooking. My spiritual practice had three main stages that overlapped. First I was going up to an Indian Ashram upstate NY, then studied and practiced Tibetan Buddhism, until I found home in the Zen Mountain monastery in New York’s beautiful Catskill mountains. My practice there led to question all I did, who I really was and was I living the true life I intended for my self? During this time I wrote and published a poetry book (in Hebrew) contemplating many of these questions. (Titled “Now I’m Here”).
As the answers came clearer, and thanks to reading Paul Pitchford’s “Healing with whole foods” I began Culinary School as a path to heal with foods.
While visiting my brother Gil and his wife Debbie on the west coast, I took on studying Nutrition in their supportive environment. As I was considering my return to NY, Montalvo arts center offered me a position as their resident chef, where I really got to improve my cooking skills, create a sustainable garden, teach yoga and nutrition, and work on my art.
Another India trip dedicated mostly to Ashtanga Mysore for 6 months before I returned to spend a year at Esalen. Esalen involved Gestalt practice, cooking, experiencing being a chef for 350 people, teaching yoga and meditation, and leading some of my own yoga and nutrition retreats.
Ashtanga Palo Alto called me to teach the Mysore program for 6 months, which led to my staying in Palo Alto teaching my Blissful Vinyasa classes around the peninsula. I am fortunate to be in the bay area, surrounded by nature, organic food, lots of yoga and people wanting to live healthier. I smile every morning with gratitude towards my little cottage, my little gray car, my healthy body and mind.
Late Summer of 2011, I united with Lauren in partnership of love. I am deeply grateful for her presence in my life, and the beautiful teaching she shares with me everyday,
I thank all of you that support me with reading this, Thank you to those that take my classes and practice with me. I thank all the friends and teachers along the way, my family and especially my mother Sara.

Yoga
Doron is a Certified 550 hour Yoga Teacher (RYT). He was introduced to Yoga and Meditation in 1992 while traveling and studying in the Far East for 2 years. Since then Doron has returned to India many times to deepen his spiritual and Asana Practice and has practiced under the guidance of Pattabhi Jois and his family including Sharath and Saraswati. He is fortunate to have studied with some other great teachers such as Richard Freeman (teacher training, Boulder, CO), Rolf and Marci, (Goa, India) Tim Miller (India), Adarsh and Heleen (Mountain View, CA), Amy Santos (New York), Gouda Hedwig (New York), and Shashadri (Mysore, India) and a Vinyasa teacher training with Mark Stephens (Santa Cruz).
The Yoga practice is based on the teachings of Krishnamacharya’s lineage, especially from the Ashtanga series. Movements flow from one to another in rhythm with the breath, emphasizing grace as the opening to a meditative practice. Alignment is carefully instructed, modifications are always offered, and hands on adjustments are used to teach proper alignment and deepen the practice. The class is a safe environment, protecting the body from injuries, a place where body and mind can release, relax and energize. All levels of classes are available; from the beginner to the advanced. Detailed teaching, demonstration and guidance are offered to the group as well as individually.
Doron’s teachings are based on the foundation of tradition with a practical and non-dogmatic way. Doron is a trained chef, a certified nutrition consultant (registered with the AADP), an artist and a long time Zen student. He uses all his skills to share a holistic experience.
Doron works towards bringing the experience of yoga on the mat onto all levels of life. Doron is a teacher of the full spectrum of yoga, creating a healthy sustainable bliss onto all layers of life.
Blissful Practice!

Deep interest in understanding the human condition, a
fascination with the power of the human mind and love for
beauty are of constant drive to Hanoch’s investigations.
Exploring the triggers to the body’s expressions Hanoch
becomes an observer of life, people, cultures and the way
they all communicate.
Doron's artwork explores the concepts of Projection, of Emotions in movement, investigating the relationship between body and mind, how one affects the other and how people interpret their vision into movement and body language.
He explores the body in space, its contact with the elements, food and other bodies.
"The body
is an outer interpretation of our mind and instinct, a poetic image.
It is beauty comprised by its form and the energy it reveals." DH
Doron's work is organic, in flow, always in search for some inner truth; something that is not really created by himself but by a universal attendance.
Doron practices and teaches Art, Yoga and Nutrition as tools for a healthy mind and body, creating a Joyful life in a sustainable manner.
