The art of non comparing, or how to kill your ego:

I place the mat on the floor, and scan the room. Who is here? Oh yeah, that girl over there is totally the yogini girl. All decked out with a sexy Lulu outfit and the Mandukha Pro mat. She has the hot body, and stretching as if she is made of rubber. Hmm, I wonder if I should be here. Then there is that other guy stretching in the Baddha Konasana with his knees to the ears.
The class starts and I dive inside in my downward dog. Feels good. Then when some other challenging pose comes by I wander around again.
This is not far from how I used to practice. Over time I got comfortable in my practice, and learned to "just practice". Breathing and doing my motions, whatever I can do that same day, recognizing that every day I feel different, and I never have the same practice.
Even though Yoga in India in the last century involved competitions and demonstrations, ask your self why you are practicing. What path will get you better and faster results? So many times I hear, practice with no will for results, and I say "practice with will for results, but no attachment to the results". So the will gets you going, but then whatever happens, happens.
